I hate starting off a new post this way…

ya, I really do hate starting off a new blog entry with a bunch of crappy excuses as to why I haven’t written in so long.  Make a long story short…I’m lazy.  Isn’t that the dream of most Internet Marketers tho?  To make so much money that they can be lazy and not work?  Ha ha….that’s not at all the case with me.

My last post talks about my new band Hollywood Assassyn which I’m still in, and we are doing great.  We ended up getting 4th place in our provice of Alberta for the music competition, pretty solid finish if you ask me considering how new of a band we are.

Then I also decided to get a ‘real job’ as a renovations worker.  Me and my girlfriend Angela want to slowly work our way into the real estate market and knowing how to a lot of the work ourselves would really help.  So I took the job, not so much for the money, but for the knowledge.    Boy oh boy…for someone who has been sitting behind a keyboard for the past 10 years, I sure quickly realized how hard so many people in life work.

I mean, I’ve only been working the real work for 2 months and every night I come home so tired and so drained.  All I want to do is eat and watch tv to fall asleep to so that I can do it again tomorrow morning!  I mean, I even like my job because I know that I’m learning some very valuable skills, and my girlfriend has seen me lose a lot of my belly which is cool too…but maaaan does it ever suck the life out of me.

I mean, I love Internet Marketing and I love reading about new things that are going on.  I love setting up JV’s and crafting emails and all that great stuff.  I love meeting new people and talking about new ideas and ways to make money online.  I love it all…but over the past two working months, I have had the hardest time actually getting to work and not just ‘Facebooking’.  Add me if you like by the way!

I got a really good taste of something that most people go through everyday…and to be totally honest without being disrespectful…I hate it.  I hate that my most creative and inspiring hours are spent making someone else rich while so many great ideas or work bursts of energy pass by cause I’m somewhere else doing someone else’s work.

So I have cut myself down to part time and vowed to renew my energies into things that I love, or that make me a lot of money so that I can set myself free again.  Free to play my guitar, and record songs, and write messages like these to you great people who read them, and discover new territory on the internet, and sleep in a little and all that great stuff.

Listen….if you read this and you can relate to what I’m talking about…like if you hate that your best hours are givin to someone else making them rich while they lay around by the pool on vacation…you have DO SOMETHING about it.  You have to make a move.  Make ANY move…it doesn’t matter how small or insignificant you may feel it is.  MAKE THAT MOVE.

You know all the sayings, 1000 mile journey begins with the first step…ya it’s corny and cheesy and overused, but it’s also true.  There are opportunities out there that you can do part time at first and grow into a business later.  Trust me…how do you think I got my start?  I mean some people start off rich, but you and me ain’t that person are we?  We have to work our own asses off to get anywhere.

But if you don’t work your own ass off, it’s always gonna be there all big and chunky and slowing you down where ever you go.  ;o)

Please feel free to comment on my blog and share with me your story or thoughts.  I will write again soon with one way that I’m making a move to an even more financially and energetically free lifestyle.

With love, and now even a little real life experience to relate to you with…
Ian

How did I get “Free Month of Hosting” to 1st page on Google?

Hey there,

So before I even start you reading this, I want you to zip over to Google.com and do a search for ‘free month of hosting’.  You should be able to find TheGuruMarketer.com, which is my site, sitting there on the 1st page beating out almost 50,000,000 other pages.  That’s a pretty competitive keyword phrase if you ask me and it’s ranked on first page of Google.  WOW!

  So how did it happen?

Alright…here’s the dealio.  Most SEO experts will tell you that one of the most important things you need to do is optimize your webpage for the specific keyword you want to be found for.  But if you look at the source code of the page mentioned above, you’ll notice I don’t have either the META NAME=”keywords” or META NAME=”description” tags in my head.  I also don’t have the keyword phrase ‘free month of hosting’ or ‘free month hosting’ in my first paragraph of text, which is considered to be a great way to improve keyword density and ranking.

I simpy have the page title set to “TheGuruMarketer.com - Free Month of Hosting.”  That’s it.  So why without those key attributes is that page still ranking so darn high?

It actually came down to one thing, incoming links with high Page Rank values.   I have just over 50 incoming links to my site, according to Alexa.com and if you look at that list you’ll see quite a few of them are from blogs of other sites where I have either left a comment, or made a post.  The important thing about those websites is that they have a high Page Rank value and Google really likes that.

So once I figured this out, it was off to the races on trying to find good blogs with high page rank values that I could start commenting on and getting incoming links to my sites for various keywords.  But man…let me tell you it’s a pretty hard task to find relevant blogs with high page ranks.  Finding even a handful can take hours.

But alas, I have found a savior and best of all, it’s free.  It’s called Comment Hut and it’s a nifty piece of software that takes all the work out of finding relevant blogs with high page rank values for you to get involved with and start commenting on.

Yes I said it’s free.  So if you want a free copy for yourself, head over to the Comment Hut page.  There’s a video you can watch that will explain what the software does and how it works.  You’ll be able to grab your free copy from there as well!

For my next post, I’m going to write up a step by step blue print guide that you can use to find a good niche market with great products to promote, find the highest searched keywords for your niche that have low search competition, and how to set up a page dedicated to drawing free search engine traffic, and making sales using tools such as Comment Hut, Micro Niche Finder, Word Press Blogs, and guides such as Blogging To The Bank 2.0.

  Ya ya…hope you like it!

My official review of “Sal The Site Stealer” ebook.

Hey Guys and Gals,

So last week I was telling everyone about how I was being bombarded with emails for the new Sal The Site Stealer ebook.  About half the marketers lists I am on are promoting this ebook like crazy.  So I went and purchased a copy myself to see what everything is all about.

The first thing I noticed is that the ebook comes with about 10-15 extra un-announced bonuses which really surprised me.  Hmm…maybe he was trying to compensate for a crappy ebook?  Well I browsed the bonuses but went ahead to read the ebook.  It turns out the bonuses are actually complimentary guides, videos, and software that come very handy at certain sections of the ebook.

The ebook itself is actually really good!  I mean ‘really’ good.  It’s no longer a surprise to me why it sold over 4000 copies in it’s first week.

I know a heck of a lot about Internet Marketing, so some of the information in the first chapter was a little repetitive for me.  The first of 5 Levels: “The Swipe and Grab” was pretty basic stuff about grabbing headlines and split testing them on your own sites, but quickly into the 2nd Level: “Swipe and Run”, I was really finding out some great new tricks of the trade on how to take a successful site and ’steal it.’

I do want to state that even though he calls it stealing, it’s not.  You are simply taking techniques that worked for people before you and modifying them to suit your needs.  It’s all explained in the ebook.

Sal uses a lot of flow chart diagrams to explain the methods he’s using and maybe that’s why it clicked for me.  I could just understand it so well.  I was extremely pleased to this point.

  And at Level 3:  “Knock Over the Whole Store” is where I realized that this ebook is definately going to be responsible for helping me to monetize all my sites in new and exciting ways that I have seen before, but for some reason this ebook explains them in a way that makes it all click for me.  A few of the business models he explains in this level are;

 - Resell Rights
 - One Time Offers
 - Free Product (Front End) + One Time Offer (Back End)
 - Squeeze Page & Thank You Page tricks.
 - Down Selling (This is a way to still capture sales from lost OTO offers)
 - Make Your Money Back (An advanced technique to get your affiliates selling right away)
 - Membership Sites

Now I know reading that, you have probably heard of all those techniquese…but trust me when I say from experience that in this ebook, Sal explains how to use each of these systems in your own business and even couple these techniques for huge profits.

Ok, I haven’t gotten to read Level 4 & 5 fully yet because I stopped to write this post out of excitement for the ebook.  But I browsed them and Level 4 is about how to use resell rights to turn huge profits.  Sal even talks about how most people think that the whole resell rights game is dead….but that’s only a sentiment shared by those who aren’t doing it properly.  He gives great examples.

Level 5 is huge…and it’s an advanced blue print that teaches you about taking the first 4 Levels and putting them all on steriods.

As I already mentioned, I haven’t finished reading 4 and 5, but once I do, I’ll post again and give you my synopsis on what they are about.  I should do that on Monday.

But, this ebook is once again, another brilliant one with tons of great information in it that applies to most levels of internet marketers.  I really do suggest you get a copy as well as all those bonuses!

I did love the ebook so much as well that I actually purchased the resell rights and I have lowered the price back down to what it was originally offered at, $37.  The ebook is now selling at $57 normally.  So if you want to grab a copy and save yourself $20,  do it from the link below.

Grab your copy of Sal The Site Stealer now.  I give it two thumbs up for sure!

PS. You will still get all of the bonuses and included stuff…because the download page is actually hosted on his site.

A litte test on Search Engine Optimization for ‘Opt In List Building’

hey everyone,

Ok so my last post I was simply telling you about how I got ranked in Google on the first page for a whole bunch of keywords I found using Micro Niche Finder and using Squidoo as the blog I posted on.

It worked amazingly well and within 7 days I was ranked as high as #1 for more than one keyword which I found amazingly surprising!  But then something really strange happened…

I was checking my ranks for my keywords and I noticed that my actual blog, yes this same website you are reading right now also started ranking for those same keywords!  What?!?  In the broad matches of the short-tailed keywords, I was actually ranking much higher (up to 30 places) for my blog post than my Squidoo sites!  Wow!

The only problem is that I have no idea why the blog is ranking higher than the Squidoo sites.  Either way I don’t really care, but it has sparked a curiosity in me to see if I can’t get higher rankings for other keywords using the same methods.

So the keyword I have chosen to use this time is ‘opt in list building’.

I was searching for opt in list building on Google to see how one of my other sites, TheOptInStrategy.com ranks and I noticed that it ranked at 180 amount over 2 million sites.  That’s not bad…but it’s not great either.  I also noticed that I hadn’t actually done any sort of page optimization for the site either.  So I quickly changed that and here is what I added.

<meta name=“Keywords” content=“opt in list building, optin list-building, opt in list-building, list building, opt in email”>
<meta name=“Description” content=“TheOptInStrategy.com is a free ebook about opt in list building. If you want to build your opt in email list then download this free guide that will have you on your way to an opt in email list.”>   I simply added some meta tags and now here’s the test.  I’m going to ping this blog post using PinGoat.com and see in a couple weeks how my search engine rankings for this keyword phrase improve, if at all.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions, please let me know ok!

I’ll post again in a week!

I’m on 1st page of Google in less than a week! Here’s how…

Hey there,

Ok you’ll have to forgive me but I’m completely excited about
the news I’m going to share with you today.

For the last week, I’ve been telling my customers about the
new Micro Niche Finder software and how it’s got that uncanny
ability to find key word phrases that have a lot of searches in a
month, but only a handful of webpages indexed on the major
search engines.

  Well…

At first I was excited because I was finding so many good
niche markets.  I ne.ver even got to putting up websites for a
couple of days because of how much fun I was having.

Then I got even more excited because I put up a few Squidoo
Lens’s the way I was told in the videos and within 4 days I
had climbed the charts at Squidoo for my keywords and was
already getting traffic to my pages.

But today I checked my traffic stats in Squidoo and I am
elated at what I saw.  Squidoo’s stats tell you were all your
traffic comes in as well as goes out.

I looked at incoming traffic today and saw that some of my
traffic is starting to come from Google searches.  I was like
‘what!?! it’s only been a week’!

So after only 7 days of being on Squidoo, here is how a few
of my keyword searches look.  Exact matches are in quotes and
broad matches aren’t.

I’m mostly surprised at the broad matches because 3 of them
are in the first page of Google after only 7 days.

“Pocket Beagle Dog” #1 out of 1,450
Teacup Beagle Dog #1 out of 141,000
Pocket Beagle Dog #6 out of 488,000
“Pocket Beagle”  #69 out of 1020
Pocket Beagle  #106 out of 834,000
“Teacup Beagle”  #8 out of 756
Teacup Beagle  #10 out of 173,000

I’m telling you there man, if you have been holding off on
getting this software, don’t wait any longer.  So many people
are going to have this software in their hands soon and they
are going to find those key words.

BEAT THEM to it..get your copy of this software now and you
can have traffic and search engine rankings in one week.

  Micro Niche Finder

  Have fun with it.

Ian Herculson

PS.  Here’s an email I got from someone who already had the
software before I emailed it to her.  She see’s the value too!

“Thanks Ian,

I already have this neat software and found over 6000 keywords
for acne.  I was lucky enough to be able to play with and own
before the rest of the world got to.

Its the most amaz.ing tool ever and I LOVE It! I have found
keywords for keywords that will make me mo.ney for thats a for
sure! Just got to put the ebooks together for it now.

How To Make Money With Private Label Rights (PLR)

Hey Peeps,

So today I wanted to write about making money using PLR products because
a lot of Internet Marketers use this technique and do quite well with it.

Step 1:  Get some PLR products.

There’s a heck of a lot of PLR membership sites out there that sell all kinds of
PLR products so you need to get your hands on some.  If you happen to be
reading this post before July 20th, there’s a slight chance that one of the 377
copies of MarketingRush2 packages are still available.  You should hurry up
and check to see if one’s left if you are into this sort of thing.

MarketingRush2 is put on by Chris Elliot and he does a bang up job with it.
Last year he sold out all 377 memberships in only 9 days.  That gives you an
idea of what people think of Chris’s work.

What I personally like best with the MarketingRush2 stuff, is that first of all
the products are awesome.  They aren’t just thrown together.  This year Chris
has 3 highly researched, feature robust software applications as well as 7 more
eBooks totalling over 1200 pages of awesome original content.

Secondly what I like, is that with this package is that each product does have
a design, but it’s simple and clean.  It’s also ‘very’ easy to redesign these
package to give it a look that’s completely unique to you!  Which leads to
Step 2.

So get your first step take care of.  Get some PLR.
  MarketingRush2

Step 2.  Get Your Packages Redesigned and Set Up ‘One At
                  A Time’.

A lot of people never really think to take this step but with so many others
owning the exact same packages as you, it’s a great way to really make your
own copy stand out and look completely original.

There’s a reason why I say to get them done one at a time.  First of all you’ll
obviously save money getting one graphic design done instead of 5 - 10 at one
time.  Who can honestly afford that much anyways?  Also, if you like the work
your designer does, then you can continue with the next one and tell him you
have more work for him.  It’s possible to strike a deal if you have several sites
you want designed.

There’s a few good places to get relatively cheap design work done.  Here’s
my 3 favorites.

http://maxcovers.com
http://blingcovers.com
http://ecoverfrog.com

Step 3:  Get Your Packages Uploaded and Connected for Sales…Yes,
                  ‘One At A Time.’

So now that you have a new website with a new look.  You can apply that look
to all your graphics and all your ebook headers and software headers and what
not for a completely original look.

Next you have to get your new PLR product online for selling!  This is where
you make your money.  Once again you will want to get one product completed
before moving on to the next one.  Don’t let youself lose focus by having your
hand in two many buckets…or however that saying goes.

There’s a few things you will want to make sure you have in place before you
start selling.  Here’s the checklist.

  3.a  A Solid Webhost.
It doesn’t make any sense to do business with kiddy tools, you’re a grown up.
Get a good webhost that offers lots of extra’s such as auto-responders and
affiliate tracking scripts.  If you are going to sell multiple products it would be
cool to have an affiliate program so you could have a bunch of little sales
people promoting your products wouldn’t it?  It’s also cool to have an
autoresponder script built in because you’ll need to manage your sales process
and customers more effectively.

The only host for serious business:  Third Sphere

  3.b A Domain Name
Having a domain name will make you appear more professional and will
result in more sales for you.  Which URL would you prefer to purchase from:

http://www.somename.com/products/product1/index.html or
http://www.product1.com

Getting your domain name is pretty easy.  You can pick your domain name
when you sign up for a new hosting account, or you can simply purchase the
domain name seperately and then point the name servers to your new
website.  If you are a beginner, I would suggest just picking the name when
you sign up for hosting!

  3.c  A Solid Merchant Processor
This one is kind of a no brainer, but it’s a hugely important step.

A 3rd party Merchant Processor will take credit card and checking account
payments for you and cut you a check every week to two weeks.  Make sure
you choose wisely here because these companies go out of business all the
time and can do things like hold funds, freeze accounts or just suspend you
for what seems like no reason some times.

My Top 3 credit card processors are:

http://www.clickbank.com - They’ve been around for ever and have a sold
reputation for paying affiliates on time and
accurately.  They can also run your affilaite
program for you and pay affiliate.  A huge
                                               advantage to their system.

http://www.paypal.com - Also has been around a long time.  Be careful with
what you sell and make sure to read the TOC with
these guys.  But if you don’t mess it up, they are
                                          great.

http://www.2Checkout.com - These guys are kinda the best features of the
first two only they are a bit cheaper.  A little
harder to set up and no affiliate program, but
they are still a great provider.

Ok, now you’ve got all that stuff in place.  A bunch of your own products to
sell, that don’t look like anyone elses, on a cool domain name, on solid hosting
and a payment processor to make it all happen.

Now it’s just time to advertise your business!  Oh boy…that’s a whole other
chapter!  I should write about it sometime!

  Enjoy.

Promoting With Video. This hasn’t been done yet.

Hey you!

So you know how a lot of times you go to check out a product and there’s
a video that you can watch first thing.  Sometimes it’s 2 mins and other
times it’s like 10 - 15 mins long.  It’s great either way because video is so
much easier to watch than reading.

Anyways, one of the biggest problems these videos posed is that affiliate’s
or people who wanted to promote whatever the video was selling, couldn’t!
The reason they wouldn’t be able to promote is because the video would
use a redirect built right into it and you wouldn’t be able to put in your
Affiliate ID.  So you just didn’t promote it.  It’s happened to me many
times.

What sucks even more is that video has been known to dramatically
increase the amount of sales that a website generates because people
like video so much!

But without being able to promote as an affilate, all the sales were caught
by only the product owner.  BOOOO!

Well a young buck named Eric Holmlund and his buddy Mike Nicholas
have developed a simply awesome solution to this problem called “Affilate
Video Brander” and it kicks a$$.

What the software does, is it goes to the site with the video, and it grabs
a copy of the video, complete with sound, and makes it’s own copy of it
and then you can create your own webpage with the video right in it!

Even better is that you can now insert your own affiliate link into the
video and capture the affiliate commissions for it as well!  Problem
solved!  Furthermore, as I said before, video has a huge impact on
people so not only will you now collect affiliate commission from
promoting videos, you can actually make a heck of a lot more sales!

Eric has actually included a couple case studies to illustrate the idea I’m
talking about above.  He also goes on to explain the “Vlog and Zing”
concept which has absolutely amazingly huge potential for you bloggers
out there.  Ya I know the name is corny…but wait till you see what it is.

If you want to go check out this nifty piece of software and read about
Vlog and Zinging, here is the link.  I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one!

Here’s a gift for you. Opt In List Building Interview

Hello again,

So I lost my internet connection for a while this morning and resorted to going
through some of my old files and I found an unfinished interview I almost did
with Terry Telford of TheBusinessProfessional.com.

So I finished writing my responses, updated the ones that were old and I made
it into a pretty PDF file. Now you can download it and read a whole interview I
did on Opt In List building. It’s 18 pages and has some pretty solid info in there.

Enjoy!

Another great email today. Pat fears the unknown!

Hey all,

I’m still getting all kinds of great emails with people telling me their stories
and troubles and all sorts of things.  Some of them are so great to read like
this one from Pat P.  I haven’t actually asked Pat if I could post her email
so I’ve left her last name as just an initial.  But you’ll still get the point from
reading the email and my reply to her.

I’ve bolded some key concepts that Pat touches on.  Here’s our emails to
each other.

Ian,

Guess I can fall into the same category as the letter from Betty.

Getting overloaded with information that seems easy to follow but then I get to a step and just procrastinate until I talk myself out of it. While the concepts are easy to understand the mechanisms of setting up auto responders, tracking, web hosting etc should seem to be easy, especially for someone like me who is self taught on many software programs; I am not afraid to try buttons and icons to see what they can do. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose everything and start over again. I usually don’t give up. Maybe frustrated a time or two, but I don’t give up.

Why, then does completing an internet business stop me cold when I hit that bump in the road? Is it because I can’t get the answers as readily as looking for the information? Is it because I don’t know where or who to turn too that won’t try to sell me the latest and greatest version of their product? How do you know what is a good niche market if you have no product? How do you market and build up your relationship with your list when you have no product but yourself?

I am very successful in what I do at work in the business world and got there by mostly OTJ (on the job) just plowing through to the end. And when I reach a point that someone wants something that I don’t believe I can do I procrastinate. But in the end, I end up doing it and find that the end result was not as bad as the fear I had doing it in the first place.

Fear is the factor that keeps me from pushing into an unknown marketplace. It stops me dead in the water for awhile, then I think I can do this and try again. This has been me for the past 3 years. I know the opportunities that I have missed by my procrastination and fear of moving out. It does become the motivator to seek out and find that opportunity that is just waiting for me.

Pat

PS I don’t live in Houston but visit from time to time. Maybe it would work with what you are trying to set up.

I personally thought this was such a great email mostly because Pat already has all the answers to her own questions!  She’s in a predicament that’s so common to so many people.  There’s a great chance you read that email and said to yourself that you feel the ‘exact’ same way!  Here is my advice to Pat.

Hey Pat

What a great email

To me it really sound like the problem is that you just don’t know who to turn to for advice you can trust. And then because of that, you make a few mistakes, get scared to try again and you never really go anywhere. But you also realize that once you dive into your fear that it’s never as bad as it seemed and on the other side, you have some new information. You already realize your own problem and you already have your own answer…and it’s a good answer! Just DO IT. The more times you do, the better you’ll get at it. You know that’s true already.

As far as the complexities of learning Internet Marketing…

I like to think of it like this. If you needed information about buying a new car, and you walked into a room with 1000 sales men all talking at the same time about why their car is the best and how it’s going to make your drive so much better… you’d be OVERLOADED with info and you’d never really learn or hear anything. The internet is the same way. There’s a billion new products that all promise to teach you the next million dollar trick and people are GREAT at making promises that are so believable. They actually teach people how to write so compellingly. But I think the answer is to slow way down.

There’s a lot to learn in the Internet Marketing world.  Pick 1 or 2 people that you REALLY believe have the answers that you are looking for. Then listen to everything they have to say. Don’t be afraid to try what they teach and fail. Failure is a process of learning. We all learn by making mistakes, not the other way around. You’re good…you’re on your way. No worries!

Thanks, Ian Herculson

Lots happened in the last few days! Check this out…

Hey hey!

So some really cool things have happened in the last day or two
that I thought I should tell you about.

First of all, thanks to the unsubscribe link that I included in
my last message, 97 people unsubscribed.  Wow!  I’m absolutely
happy about this for a couple of reasons!

The first reason is that I know that because I am back on my
new server people are getting my emails again!  I mean they
couldn’t unsubscribe if they didn’t get the email right?

Well thanks to you for still being here…I will  honestly try to
make it worth your while for staying.

The second reason that I’m happy about those unsubscribes is
that I’m about to offer you a whole bunch of really valuable info
for absolutely nothing, and I already told you and all the others
that right?  Well the people who unsubscribed obviously don’t
really care about that and I don’t want to work with people who
don’t care!  It makes my job easier!

Another cool thing that I noticed is that over 200 people wanted
to know who I host with.  I know this because just over 200 of
my subs clicked over to check out the free hosting.  Did anyone
take advantage of the free month?  No not yet, but that’s cool
cause I just want you to know it’s there in case you ever need it!

  And now the BIG NEWS!!

I just found out that Clickbank, who is a extremely reputable
third party payment processor, such as Paypal or 2Checkout, has
just introduced ‘recurring billing’ option.

I don’t know if you sell any products yet, but for me that’s
absolutely huge news.

The bad part is that because I want to now use Clickbank to run
my affiliate program, I need to have my new software all
reprogrammed.  It might take an extra few days.

I still will be releasing my new stuff in the next 2 weeks tho
either way!

Ummm and only one more thing to tell you about!  I started this
blog today.  I had to learn how to install WordPress and Theme’s
and then how to work with them to get the look I wanted, but I
figured it all out and this is what I came up with.

I’d love it if you left some comments!

  K, chat soon!
