I hate starting off a new post this way…

ya, I really do hate starting off a new blog entry with a bunch of crappy excuses as to why I haven’t written in so long.  Make a long story short…I’m lazy.  Isn’t that the dream of most Internet Marketers tho?  To make so much money that they can be lazy and not work?  Ha ha….that’s not at all the case with me.

My last post talks about my new band Hollywood Assassyn which I’m still in, and we are doing great.  We ended up getting 4th place in our provice of Alberta for the music competition, pretty solid finish if you ask me considering how new of a band we are.

Then I also decided to get a ‘real job’ as a renovations worker.  Me and my girlfriend Angela want to slowly work our way into the real estate market and knowing how to a lot of the work ourselves would really help.  So I took the job, not so much for the money, but for the knowledge.    Boy oh boy…for someone who has been sitting behind a keyboard for the past 10 years, I sure quickly realized how hard so many people in life work.

I mean, I’ve only been working the real work for 2 months and every night I come home so tired and so drained.  All I want to do is eat and watch tv to fall asleep to so that I can do it again tomorrow morning!  I mean, I even like my job because I know that I’m learning some very valuable skills, and my girlfriend has seen me lose a lot of my belly which is cool too…but maaaan does it ever suck the life out of me.

I mean, I love Internet Marketing and I love reading about new things that are going on.  I love setting up JV’s and crafting emails and all that great stuff.  I love meeting new people and talking about new ideas and ways to make money online.  I love it all…but over the past two working months, I have had the hardest time actually getting to work and not just ‘Facebooking’.  Add me if you like by the way!

I got a really good taste of something that most people go through everyday…and to be totally honest without being disrespectful…I hate it.  I hate that my most creative and inspiring hours are spent making someone else rich while so many great ideas or work bursts of energy pass by cause I’m somewhere else doing someone else’s work.

So I have cut myself down to part time and vowed to renew my energies into things that I love, or that make me a lot of money so that I can set myself free again.  Free to play my guitar, and record songs, and write messages like these to you great people who read them, and discover new territory on the internet, and sleep in a little and all that great stuff.

Listen….if you read this and you can relate to what I’m talking about…like if you hate that your best hours are givin to someone else making them rich while they lay around by the pool on vacation…you have DO SOMETHING about it.  You have to make a move.  Make ANY move…it doesn’t matter how small or insignificant you may feel it is.  MAKE THAT MOVE.

You know all the sayings, 1000 mile journey begins with the first step…ya it’s corny and cheesy and overused, but it’s also true.  There are opportunities out there that you can do part time at first and grow into a business later.  Trust me…how do you think I got my start?  I mean some people start off rich, but you and me ain’t that person are we?  We have to work our own asses off to get anywhere.

But if you don’t work your own ass off, it’s always gonna be there all big and chunky and slowing you down where ever you go.  ;o)

Please feel free to comment on my blog and share with me your story or thoughts.  I will write again soon with one way that I’m making a move to an even more financially and energetically free lifestyle.

With love, and now even a little real life experience to relate to you with…
Ian

Hey Ian,

Man its great hearing from you again. I can relate to the work you are talking about. Now take in mind I am a lot older then you are. I will turn 50 Sunday the 23rd but in the summer of 2004 I decided to do the same thing you are doing, build and remodel houses. At that time I was making a steady income with networking and had it on autopilot so off to East TEXAS i go with a truck load of tools and a bucket load of ambition. I worked from daylight to dark and would come in and take a shower, eat and die. This went on for about 2 months and you’re right, the stomach and ass and every other deposit of fat starts leaving your body. I spent most of the time pulling up my jeans that were now to loose. Needless to say on Aug 1st I came back home to Houston for a week break, and boy did I get a break, Aug 4th standing on the patio doing a 3 way call with Mr. Tom Mathews I decided to have a heart attack.

Guess what, after that I decided to leave the remodeling and home building for someone elase to do and decided staying a full time network was more my line of work.

Glad to have you at least back part time. Keep me posted.

Hi Ian,

Dude - nice post . . . ! So now you know what ‘normal’ people do day in and day out and why it tough to put time aside after they get home from work to ’start a business’ for themselves. Sometimes all you hsave time for is help your kid with his or her homework, watch a bit of the tube and then go to sleep!!

Yikes . . . !

It all comes into perspective when you experience it yourself.

While you’ve been off playing your music and then getting a ‘real’ j-o-b, I’ve been working on my second book and it’s now complete! I’ve gotten great feedback from a few influential and cool bunch of people . . . so hopefully alot of individuals will find it helpful and then Take Action! :-)

Well Ian, been trying to get a hold of you - do you even remember me anymore . . . !? ;-) Anyways, drop me a email will ya’?

Talk to you soon . . .

Eric

Hi Ian,

I hear ya - I keep working away on what I want to see in my life. A quick perusal of the local newspaper, reveals few jobs that I would consider as stimulating and challenging as materializing the vision I hold. I worked until the wee hours of this morning on my website and appreciate that it is from my own hands and imagination! So, I send you encouragement back - keep your eyes on the prize!

Congratulations on your band’s success!

Hi Ian,
Yes that does sound motivational. At least you have a reason other than money to do it. Life rarely progresses in a straight path. Often times you must devate a little from your goal path to make some stuff happen. It works out if you keep your ultimate goals in mind and not be worn down by the daily grind of it. Too many of us get side tracked into just getting by.

good luck

Ian,

I always love your approach…you put yourself out there and tell the good and the not so great aspects of making a living online. I work 55 hour weeks and have spent 2-3 hours a night for the past 6 months building my fitness blog and building link to my blog (Web 2.0, ezinearticles, remote blogging, etc.).

It is the hardest work I’ve ever done, since I’m so tired some nights when I get home. I just focus on ditching my demanding job. The great thing is that now my blog is getting 1,200-1,500 uniques per day and 4,500 page views…all from natural search.

Anyway…you and your buddy went on a biking trip a few years back and your free spirit was inspirational to me. I read your journals of the trip and it planted a seed that I needed to figure out this whole internet marketing deal. It took me a few years to go for it, but now I’m kicking butt. I just wanted to say thanks!

Rusty

Hey, All !

So I hear a couple of you have found out what it’s like in the ‘real’ world! Now you know why there’s a lot of drinking in the construction crowd!

Take it from an ‘old-guy’ who recently joined the double nickle club [55] and left the labouring work behind [thanks to that Bronco that slammed me from behind!] working hard, physically, is highly over-rated!

I always heard it said that working hard and growin’ old ain’t for wimps. I finally understand why and now I believe it! I was a ‘wrench’ for 20+ yrs and was in remodeling and painting after that until I had a couple of good whiplash injuries the last couple of yrs…The last one pretty much put me out of working like I knew to, so NOW I’ve got to get serious about this internet thing….or get on the MTV….get that ‘money for nuthin’ … [there’s that song again!]

Seriously … Ian if you want to ’shortcut’ your learning curve and get some seasoned direction with the remodeling … PM me … I’ve done it ALL, well most anyway… I’ll even come up your way after it thaws out real good, of course! Teach you how to fix that ‘flipper’!

Sounds like The Grouser’s been workin’ harder than anyone … When they call it Heavy Mechanics, they mean HEAVY That S—’ll kill ya! Watch them fingers Grouser!

Check you later

Hey Ian,
This is stuff that everyone needs to hear. I remember how much I hated my J.O.B. But that first step is the most important as cheesy or goofy as people may think it sounds it is also the most TRUE. Its great that we’ll be hearing more from you. Keep Rockin!
